Susan Jorgen

Susanne Jörgen's sculptures resemble lightweights. Woven and shaped from wire, they possess more volume than mass.
They radiate an unmistakable physicality. They depict busts, torsos, a life-size centaur. The wire always winds itself around imaginary bodies in numerous circles, loops, and tangles, becoming bodies in its own right. Besides their delicate structure, Susa Jörgen's sculptures are distinguished by another characteristic: instead of resting on pedestals, they hang from the ceilings. This allows one to walk around them or, if a breeze stirs the room, to watch them slowly rotate.
When light enters the picture, the sculpture on the walls doubles in size. Its shadow, however, appears neither flat nor dark, but rather, due to the many circular lines, is once again formed into a three-dimensional, light-filled form. Occasionally, the relationship between sculpture and its shadow is reversed, when the sculpture takes on the characteristics of a drawing and its shadow transitions into the realm of virtual three-dimensionality. It is this interplay with the body, its oscillation between drawing and volume, between real and projected form, that defines not only Susa Jörgen's wire sculptures, but also her red chalk or charcoal drawings.
On October 23, 2025, Susanne Jörgen's wire sculpture "Udo Lindenberg" was sold for 4,100 EUR on the ZDF show "Bares für Rares".
