Maria Schley

Maria Schley lives and works in Hamburg. She is an observer of the world and is inspired by spontaneous moments and unexpected events. Her openness to the unpredictable and her ability to draw creative inspiration from everyday life are reflected in her works.

Her career as an artist began with the discovery of images created while her cell phone was in her pocket.  The camera accidentally triggered, capturing the textures of the fabric. This phenomenon demonstrates how art can evolve even without intention.

Over the years, unique, often abstract motifs have emerged. Light and shadow, clear lines, and blurred contours form surprising compositions. Colors blend into one another, and patterns emerge from unpredictable angles.

The random shooting style lends the images a special dynamic. No image was deliberately designed, yet interesting structures and color gradients emerge. The lines between chance and creativity blur. Each image is unique and was created entirely without any planned staging. It is unpredictability that directs the shots—a homage to the beauty of chance.
