Sherin P. Spielman

“ My work is a reflection of contemporary trends and a homage to beauty and diversity.”
Like Alice in Wonderland in Lewis Carroll 's story, artist Sherin P. Spielmann perceives the world as a universe with its own unique rules. Alice must break away from familiar ideas and values to understand the unfamiliar society of Wonderland. The new experiences require openness, impartiality, and curiosity. With this curiosity and impartiality, Sherin devotes herself to the beauty and diversity of being. Fashion as an expression of personality and the beautiful shell as a means of seduction, fairy tales and mythologies as descriptions of the archetype, eroticism, and role-playing.
Her preferred working materials are ink and sharpened wood of varying densities (balsa wood, spruce, etc.). As in Chinese ink drawing, the application of color is spontaneous and irreversible. This technique lends her works, some of which appear graphic, an unmistakable signature. For larger areas of color, she uses acrylic, often in more than 10 translucent layers with varying textures, to give the image more depth. As an artist, Sherin takes a stand in the current gender debate and supports the organization intact eV, which campaigns against female genital mutilation.
Sherin P. Spielmann studied fashion design at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg). After graduating, she moved to New York to study fashion illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology and life drawing at the Art Students League. She worked as a freelance illustrator and designer in this fashion capital for five years. In 1994, Sherin returned to Hamburg and founded her studio for fine and applied arts. Under the name Sherin L'Artiste, she is known as a live artist at burlesque events and is booked as a portrait artist for events.
