Johanna Nissen
"I love the ships, the sea and the port", sing Fettes Brot in their song "Nordisch by Nature" and the same goes for the artist Johanna Nissen. Born and raised in North Friesland and, after various stops, since 2008 in Hamburg and " nordic by nature”, she loves to be near the water and let the fresh wind blow in her face.
The sea, the vastness, but also the port city of Hamburg activate their creativity. Sometimes it's the calm of the wide horizon, then again the dynamism of the big city. Therefore, many motifs from Hamburg and the sea can be found in her screen prints, paintings and woodcuts.
Everyday objects are also occasions for her art. She finds it particularly exciting to depict things that surround us every day in such a way that they are not always recognizable at first glance.
Basically, she likes to work with graphic elements, lines and surfaces, changes of perspective and abstract representationalism. So the eye always has something to discover in these works of art.
Many of her works are designed with strong colors. They are an expression of joie de vivre and energy, because art should bring joy, make you happy and raise awareness of how content it is to surround yourself with beautiful things.
